Big D and the Kids Table Announce Halloween Shows and Operation Ivy Cover Set

2014 Big D and the Kids Table Halloween Show with Operation Ivy Cover Set

For the second year in a row, Big D and the Kids Table’s Halloween festivities will stretch over the course of two nights at Brighton Music Hall. Last year they split the nights stylistically, performing a “stomp” set (ska/punk) on night one, and a “stroll” set on night 2. This made sense following the release of their double LP split in the same ways. This Halloween, they’ll don the musical costumes of ska/punk pioneers Operation Ivy, performing their seminal album “Energy” on night 2, October 25th, while performing a “regular” show on night 1, October 24th. (I’m not sure what “regular” show means given how different their sets have been over the course of the last 15 years that I’ve been seeing Big D perform).

What’s even more exciting for a ska fan like myself is that The Planet Smashers will be opening both nights. This is huge news given I can’t remember the last time I saw the Planet Smashers or the last time they were in this part of the country. Every time I’ve seen them it’s been a total party. In fact, I’m exhausted already thinking of dancing through their set and into Big D’s. The Planet Smashers released a full length album entitled “Mixed Messages” earlier this year. Also supporting both nights will be local reggae act Destroy Babylon and local punk rock band The Warning shots. Big D has said that each of the openers will be doing covers on night 2, but it’s unclear if it will be an entire set or themed in any way.

Both nights are all ages and tickets are $18.50 after fees. Grab your tickets here: Friday, October 24th (Night 1) and Saturday, October 25th (Night 2). The show starts at 6pm each night and Brighton Music Hall tends to get things moving pretty promptly for all ages shows.
