Mighty Mighty Bosstones Announce 17th Annual Hometown Throwdown

2014 17th Annual Mighty Mighty Bosstones Hometown Throwdown at House of Blues Boston

This year is all about the Santas. All of them.

Yesterday, everyone’s favorite Boston ska stalwarts The Mighty Mighty BossToneS announced dates for their 17th annual Hometown Throwdown, returning to the House of Blues Boston for another year.

It’s just about that time of year again!!! Hometown Throwdown 17 is right around the corner. Tickets go on sale THIS FRIDAY at 10:00 AM. We have an INCREDIBLE line up this year featuring some super special guests and true heroes of ours. We will be announcing these details as soon as possible. In the meantime, get ready for THE RETURN OF THE GREAT WALL OF SANTAS!

The dates are Friday, December 26th, Saturday, December 27th, and Sunday, December 28th with all shows starting at 7pm. As stated above, tickets go on sale Friday at 10 AM. Their Facebook announcement and website blog post hint that supporting acts will be announced soon, but it looks like some clumsy chef at Livenation already spilled the beans. According to the House of Blues website, Andrew W.K. is opening night 3, December 28th (screenshot here in case they re-embargo the news)! We have it on good word that the other openers will be equally legendary. If you visit the House of Blues site, you’ll also note that for each night, they’ve got a few sample tracks by the artists playing. MMB have only released a gajillion songs, and I know they’re best known for “The Impression That I Get,” but is it really necessary to have that song listed three times to make your point?

I also find it so coincidental that the poster’s theme–often indicative of the visual theme of the Throwdown–has the communist propaganda motif just a few short months after Weird Al released “Mandatory Fun,” an album with similarly cover art. I can’t help but wonder if this not just coincidental, but a common reaction to a similar feeling of unease in the states today. Either way I anticipate recurring Santa nightmares for nights, so thanks for that.

Lastly, my heart goes out to all the trombone players currently cringing at the grip the devil’s got on that trombone in the flyer. Yes, they should have consulted you.

UPDATE 9/15/14 7:15 AM: As announced Friday, Andrew W.K. is definitely opening night 3.
