Call me old-fashioned (or just, you know, old), but I still get excited about seeing the bands I love on TV. I know we’ve got YouTube and the internet so we can watch, not just listen, to almost any band at any time. But there’s something about knowing that the band you love is going to be watched by more than just the fans of the band; that they’ll be seen by potential fans. While it might not be the same for an established band for the Bosstones, a TV appearance can mean everything for an up and coming act. In the case of the Bosstones, I imagine this will be a nice reminder to fans who haven’t been keeping in touch.
So set those DVRs (or leave the coffee on, it’s only Wednesday folks), The Mighty Mighty Bosstones will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC tonight, as was announced earlier this week. It seems only fair that Jimmy let the band appear on his show after they let him play “The Impression That I Get” with them at Dicky’s Birthday Bash.
This TV appearance will kick off their “Way Out West” Tour which takes them to the Rockies and beyond. I guess we can share the Bosstones with the west coast. It’s the right thing to do. But, let’s consider it the start of a coastal ska band exchange program, okay? There are plenty of bands from out there that don’t make it out here as often as we’d like.
UPDATE 8/7/14 9:05 AM: You fell asleep on the couch, didn’t you? Here is “The Impression That I Get” below. The organ sounds rings clear, but there’s a bit too much bass clarinet for my taste.
UPDATE 8/8/14 9:21 AM: There were TWO videos! Our bad. The second is “They Will Need Music” complete with piano. It’s a personal favorite. I love how they have two different outfits for two different songs. The jury is still out on Dicky’s hair.
