New Crowdfunded Mustard Plug Record Available Jan 14

mustard plug 2013 low res

Last August, Michigan-based ska/punk stalwarts Mustard Plug looked to Kickstarter to fund their 7th album (their count), 7 years after their previous release “In Black and White.”  Much to their surprise, they met their funding goal in just two days! “Can’t Contain It” will be available on vinyl, cd, and digitally on January 14, 2014. Just head to No Idea Records to place your order.

Based at the three songs I’ve heard, I’m psyched and I think other fans will be, too. My favorite so far is “The All-Nighter” which premiered on Alternative Press. It’s a classic mid-tempo Mustard Plug dance jam but something about it sounds so new and bright to me. “White Noise” is more punk rock and in your face and can be streamed below. “Aye Aye Aye” actually debuted back in 2010 as a single but will finally get an album release.

For the Love of Punk takes a deeper look in their full review:

This entire album is a testament to Mustard Plug’s constant achievement of making their audience dance, sing, and have a damn good time while listening to their music. […] Can’t Contain It really sounds like a new Mustard Plug. They have some darker songs and some real rock n’ roll songs that create a nice change of feel throughout the album. […] Mustard Plug have created a masterpiece once again. All fourteen songs are in a smooth order with excellent flow, it is well produced, and exceeded any expectation I had.

Needless to say, it sounds like a must-have for any Mustard Plug fan. Are you planning to pick up this record? What’s your favorite Mustard Plug album? Let us know in the comments.

Unfortunately the band does not have any northeast dates scheduled at this time, but be sure to tell your friends in Brazil, Michigan, and Florida to check them out.

UPDATE 1/14/13 3:00 PM: Dying Scene is streaming “Bang!” and the whole record can be streaming on Spotify. But seriously go buy the record.

Mustard Plug – “Aye Aye Aye”

So we had this new idea to include news that might be of interest to the Boston Ska community, not just information about the Boston Ska scene. We figured there was at least one person in the greater Boston area who digs Mustard Plug.  Should we do more of this? Let us know.
