Los Angeles early reggae revival act The Aggrolites have announced that they’re currently recording a new album. The band hasn’t had a full length album since 2011’s “Rugged Road” and their live record, “Unleashed Live Vol. 1.” Since then, the band has put out a few singles including a few tracks only available on bandcamp or vinyl (or youtube because, you know). “Aggro Reggae Party” from 2015 remains one of my favorite songs from the band.
In a lengthy interview with Last Rockers TV, Jesse Wagner (vocals) and Roger Rivas (keys) share a few more details about this new record:
- This will be a “return” to their “original” style. They feel like their first few records were recorded in one particular style and then they strayed with later releases. If you liked the first Aggrolites record, “Dirty Reggae,” you should check out this 1999 release by “The Rhythm Doctors” featuring Brian Dixon and Jesse Wagner.
- They are full-on DIY for this release: recording, engineering, and producing it themselves at Roger’s home studio.
- They intend to tour but have not yet scheduled anything. To the best of our knowledge, the band hasn’t been to the Boston area since 2012.
- In 2017, the Aggrolites were the backing band on an album by Dela, the sax player for Slightly Stoopid.
