Here at Boston Ska (dot) net, we think a lot about community: communities of musicians, communities of show-goers, the larger Boston music scene and our smaller ska scene. We set out to help build that community by promoting bands, telling stories, and keeping folks informed about shows in the area. We like to think we’re doing an okay job of that but we know we can do more.
This is why we’re excited to be presenting our first show! (It only took two years but, hey, better late than never, amirite?) Somewhere in the back of my head, I seem to remember a weekly or monthly ska night at O’Brien’s happening some 10 to 15 years ago. I wasn’t yet living in Boston and I wasn’t yet of drinking age so the details are fuzzy. I’m a big fan of this place, and the good folks there have been kind enough to let us have the place for the night! If you’ve never been, it’s a cozy bar with a small stage, great sound, and good tap selection. We’ve assembled what we think to be a damn good Monday night line up with only a $5 cover charge. We’re willing to wager is this better that your Monday nights tend to be.
UPDATE 9/21/14 7:00 PM: We’re excited to announce local legend Riki Rocksteady will be opening the night with a very special acoustic set!
Monday, September 22, 2014, 8 PM, 21+, $5
O’Brien’s Pub, 3 Harvard Ave, Allston
We hope you’ll come hang out, have a drink, enjoy some tunes, and make some friends! Get to know the bands below and join the Facebook Event here. Check back often as we hope to add another acoustic act to the bill!
The Pomps feature members of Big D, Stray Bullets, The Pomps, Destroy Babylon, Void Union and more! Their new-wave and pop takes on the ska sound is very refreshing.
The Screw-Ups split their time between Boston and CT, yet somehow bring this oh-so-chill so-cal sound to their ska, reggae, and rocksteady.
Featuring members of FORT! The Band and The Takeaways, Meracula is made up of heroes of the Boston basement culture. They bring their unique blend of ska-punk and folk-punk to our night. Take a moment to read our review of their debut release here.
